Number Talk Dot Cards: Quick Images | Subitizing Math Warmup

$3.00

These Number Talk Dot Cards are perfect for a "Quick Images" subitizing math warmup or math lesson in kindergarten or first grade. Includes 32 Quick Images dot cards that use a variety of configurations of dots, lines, and shapes to help students "see" numbers in many different ways and explain the groups they saw. The ability to subitize (quantify groups quickly) helps students build number sense, fact fluency, and enhances mathematical thinking by inviting lots of math discussion. Also, the perfect introduction to part-part-whole math talks. So many math standards can be practiced with these versatile cards!

What's included:

  • 32 Quick Images subitizing cards that show numbers 3-10 in unique ways

  • List of prompts to expand on student thinking

How to use:

  1. Show students a card for 3 seconds, then hide it. (Quick enough that they don’t count each mark individually, but use a strategy to group them or count on/back from a number).

  2. Allow students time to process, then show it for 3 seconds again so they can “double check.”

  3. Students show their work and explain their thinking.

Ways to show work:

  • Draw the representation in a journal or on a white board

  • Show with counters

  • Create a part-part-whole model to match

  • Write an equation to match

  • Show the groups on a rekenrek

...so many possibilities!
